The Kia Pride, once known for its unexciting practicality, has now received an exciting electric vehicle (EV) transformation.

Last week, TG revealed that Christian von Koenigsegg isn't a big fan of restomods. Fair enough, considering he’s pushing the boundaries of modern hypercars like no other in the industry. But perhaps we should show him this.

Introducing an electrified Kia Pride restomod, which just might change Christian's mind about restomods.

Built by Kia UK in collaboration with Electrogenic, a renowned restomod specialist from Oxfordshire, this Pride EV marks Kia’s 80th anniversary (the company began in 1944 as Kyungsung Precision Industry, making bicycle parts). It’s been designed to offer the thrilling experience of an early hot hatch, and we can almost imagine Christian warming up to it.

The starting point? A 1996 'Kingfisher Blue' five-door Kia Pride 1.3 LX, plucked from Kia UK’s heritage fleet. Originally, its four-cylinder engine made 60bhp and 87lb ft of torque. Fast forward to today, and that engine’s been swapped for an electric motor with a punchy 107bhp and 173lb ft of torque. Quite the upgrade.

Interestingly, the Pride EV offers three driving modes. In Eco mode, power is limited to match the original 60bhp and 87lb ft, allowing for an estimated range of 120 miles thanks to twin 10kWh battery packs (one under the bonnet and another in the boot for balanced weight distribution).

Switch to Auto mode, and the output jumps to 80bhp and 130lb ft, along with enhanced regenerative braking. But the real fun starts in Sport mode, where it unlocks the full 107bhp, making it capable of 0-62mph in around eight seconds. Kia even suggests that Sport mode is perfect for “overtaking or burning through front tyres in less ideal conditions.” We think Christian might approve.

Despite converting from petrol to electric, the Pride has only gained 20kg, giving it a total weight of just 870kg—meaning it delivers 123bhp per tonne. Even better, it retains its original five-speed manual gearbox, enhanced with a performance clutch kit. Yes, a manual EV.

Inside, the Pride retains its original analogue dials and retro grey cloth upholstery, with new lime green accents that echo the design of the 577bhp Kia EV6 GT. On the outside, it sports fresh 'White Pearl' paint and updated lighting while keeping its classic 12-inch steel wheels.

Charging? The Type 2 charge port is cleverly hidden under the original fuel filler cap and connects to a 3.3kW onboard charger, allowing a full recharge in about six hours from a standard socket or wallbox.

So, Mr. Koenigsegg, could this electrified Pride be the restomod to change your mind? We think it’s a strong contender.
